Guide to using Propane Heat in your Home

Updated: Nov 1, 2023

GAS STOVE

As an abundant resource, propane is both cost and energy-efficient and can be an excellent choice to fuel your home needs. From fueling your outdoor grill to heating your indoor living spaces, propane is becoming an increasingly popular source of energy. Here is a guide to outline some of the more common uses.

1-Gas Logs-Propane fueled fireplaces are a great addition to any home. They can provide an adjustable and comfortable form of heat that creates a warm ambiance in any living space. They are more commonly used as supplemental heat but have the ability to warm large areas efficiently.

2-Tankless Water Heaters-In the past, water heaters have been large and bulky, taking up space inside your home. Now you are able to install tankless water heaters which take up less space and provide cost-efficient hot water on demand. In the long run, they are more durable, cheaper to maintain, and can cost less to install.

3-Cook Stove-Gas is the only type of cooktop that allows you to cook over an open flame. It allows a visual indicator of heat while creating an instantaneous change in temperature every time you turn the dial. Some gas cooktops even feature high-efficiency burner technology which means the burner can boil water and heat pans faster while requiring fewer gas BTUs, making them more efficient as well. Gas stoves can still be used if the power goes out but keep in mind you’ll need to manually light the burners since the electric starter won’t function without power.

4-Dryers-Gas powered dryers provide a steady heat that will, in turn, heat your clothes faster while helping to preserve their color, elasticity, and longevity. Gas Dryers can reduce your cost per load which can be especially helpful in high-volume households.

5-Gas Furnace-The heat that this type of furnace delivers is usually just over 110 degrees, which is far higher than your body temperature. As a result, the interior of your home heats up to a comfortable point faster. Gas furnaces are cost-effective and more efficient than their fuel oil and kerosene counterparts. When you compare it to oil, wood, and electricity produced from fossil fuels, gas is the least harmful to the environment and more consumers are turning to this eco-friendly fuel.

6-Outdoor grill- Most outdoor grills are fueled with exchangeable propane cylinders. Imagine having a steady heat supply you never have to exchange out. You will never have to worry about running out during a cooking session and have on-demand heat for your grill.

7-Emergency Generators- In an emergency, generators powered by propane can keep your home or business functioning. While propane is generally more expensive than natural gas, the energy density allows your generator to run for longer periods.

While there are costs to installing gas lines in a home, this should not deter you if you are looking to increase your energy efficiency overall. As stated above, propane is an abundant source of energy and can cut your energy costs over time.
